As most people in small towns know, there are limited choices when it comes to where to shop for apparel and other sporting goods, unless you want to take your chances and buy online. It was the summer of 2015 when I wandered into our local running store to try on some running apparel not expecting much, but knowing I’d find expensive price tags and was bound to leave with an empty wallet by the end of my trip. Little did I know my life would forever be changed with one small sock suggestion.
I hadn’t been impressed with the few pairs of running socks I had tried until the sales associate handed me a pair of the Balega Enduro socks to try out. I was immediately intrigued by the feel. Mind you, I’m rarely convinced and won’t become a forever fan until I truly find “the one” - it’s just how I am with all things having to do with running - shoes, tights, etc. Therefore, I left that day with a pair of Balega socks, still not convinced that they were “the ones,” but definitely feeling curious and excited to test them out.
The following weekend I had a Spartan Race and thought, “let’s put these through the ringer and see how they hold up.” Previously, my socks would rarely last through these kinds of events, so I was hoping for the best, but wasn’t too optimistic. The event was Washugal’s Spartan Sprint, which is well known for its rugged terrain and heaps of mud. In years past, I had struggled with gear issues, and that's the last thing you want to think about during an event like this. Therefore, in the back of my mind I was hoping for a good “clean” race and nothing else. Little to my surprise, I was able to have nothing on my mind but the finish. It was a grueling event, as they always are, but in the end, it was one of my favorite races ever.
For the next few days, I couldn’t get Balega off my mind, so I went back to ask the sales associate more questions. I ended up leaving the store that day with three more pairs of Balega socks and then in a week, I ended up buying even more. To put it simply, I was hooked and knew that when it came to my running sock choice I had found “the one”. To date, my favorite socks will always be the Enduro, but I have since branched out into the world (still the Balega world of course) and now wear Silvers too. I use my Enduros for mud (aka Spartan and trail races) and my Silvers for everything else, including the events I partake in that last 40 plus hours…
I hope you enjoyed my story about falling in love with Balega Enduro socks...now go pick yourself up a pair if you’re still searching for “the ones!”Kristena ‘Special K’
